Congratulations on your engagement! You are now in the process of planning the wedding of your dreams. While you may be feeling overwhelmed by all there is to do, we have compiled a list of five key things that should be at the top of your post engagement wedding tasks. Read on for tips and tricks for getting started on these must-do wedding tasks!
Figuring out your budget is one of the most important tasks after you get engaged. Before you can make any other decisions, you need to know how much money you have to work with. This includes both family contributions and any funds from personal savings accounts or loans. Get together with your partner and decide what is realistic based on all sources of income. Then discuss what percentage will be allocated towards different aspects of the wedding such as venue, food, dress, decor, etc. Once you have an idea of what your budget looks like, it will be much easier to make decisions about the other items on this list. For budgeting and priorities check out our How to plan a wedding in Arizona post.
Venues tend to book up quickly so this is probably one of the first things you should do after getting engaged. First and foremost, pick a venue that allows enough room for all the guests on your guest list. Then think about how long it takes to get there from important locations such as where people will be staying or where photos will be taken before or after the wedding ceremony or reception. Finally, consider what kind of atmosphere it provides and whether there are any restrictions when it comes to decorations or catering services. Once you’ve found a venue that checks all these boxes and fits into your budget – book it!
Creating a guest list early on in the planning process helps with deciding on venues and catering services later down the line so don’t forget this step! Start by making two lists – one with people who absolutely must attend (parents, siblings) and another with those who would be nice to invite (friends from high school). When coming up with final numbers only include those who are willing and able to attend when making reservations for catering services or venues.
Once you have an idea of what budget works best for you and how many people can actually attend due to space – pick a date! Keep in mind religious holidays as well as birthdays/special occasions when trying to choose something that works best for everyone involved. Furthermore – check out weather patterns if possible before settling on anything just in case Mother Nature has other plans…you never know right?
Now is the time to find the vendors that will make all of your dreams come true! From florists & caterers to photographers & DJs, there’s a lot to consider. Here so take some time to research potential vendors before making any final decisions and don’t forget to ask for referrals from friends who have already been through the process too. They can be great resources because they know what questions you should be asking and what things are most important to look out for when making decisions in this are of the wedding planning process!
Congratulations again on taking this exciting step towards marrying your significant other! We hope this list has given you some direction as far as which post engagement wedding tasks should take priority so that organizing everything else becomes easier down the line – good luck & happy planning!
